Appearance

Research Map appears to be a weathered treasure map with visible wear and aging. Red lines trace paths across its surface, and two red X's mark locations on the map, giving it a classic treasure-hunt aesthetic. Ichor stains cover the left corners, tying the item visually to the currency used to purchase it. The edges of the map feature cut-off pieces of paper with additional lines drawn on the left, right, and top portions, suggesting it was torn from a larger document. A white bookmark sits in the top-right corner, positioned next to two black lines that run along the edge.

Strategies

Research Map is particularly useful for Rodger and Looey, as their Mastery quests require collecting 125 Research Capsules. Coal and Pebble's Abilities work as alternatives for finding capsules, though Research Map highlights more often than those options, making it the more reliable choice for capsule-hunting runs.

Because it only costs 200 Ichor, Research Map is a strong early-game choice for newer players who want more Ichor and Research to unlock Toons and additional Trinkets. The low price point also means players can buy it almost immediately after starting the game, giving them a head start on Twisted Research progress. If you already have full Research on every Twisted, this Trinket offers little value and should be swapped for a combat or utility Trinket instead.

Research Map will not highlight Twisted Rodger's fake capsules, which gives it a powerful secondary use: any unlit capsule while wearing this Trinket is confirmed to be Twisted Rodger's fake. This is a quick way to alert teammates to his location, and in lobbies where Twisted Rodger is active, the Trinket essentially doubles as a detection tool.

Research Map synergizes strongly with Rodger's Passive, which doubles Research gained from capsules. Pairing it with an extraction-focused Trinket such as Vee's Remote or Magnifying Glass lets Rodger grind Research and Ichor efficiently across floors. Rodger's above-average Extraction Speed further compounds this advantage, allowing him to clear capsules and progress through Floors faster than most other Toons.

The Trinket also helps in high-graphics settings where shadows can obscure capsules in corners. However, Research Capsules are slightly larger than other Items, so experienced players on lower graphics may not need the highlight. For team play, calling out highlighted capsule locations to teammates who lack the Trinket can improve overall group Research gains across a match.
